  • Dental Implants
  • Modern dental implants are highly successful and last for many years when placed under the right circumstances.  The patient should be generally healthy and a nonsmoker.  Good oral hygeine is important.  There must be adequate bone in width and depth to place the implant.

The bone that supports a tooth gradually melts away unless an implant is placed.  Thus, the ideal time to place an implant is usually within six months of the loss of a tooth.  Bone grafting can be done prior to placement of an implant.

Bone actually grows onto a dental implant, and this makes the implant quite solid.  But it takes several months for the bone to attach, before a tooth can be placed on the implant.  Dr. Daly can give you more detailed information on this interesting topic.
